12 Days of X-Mas: Kensington Pocket Mouse Pro
By Michael Flaminio, Insanely Great Mac
December 2nd 2002

The Kensington Pocket Mouse Pro offers road warriors a convenient compact mousing
design

The Pocket Mouse Pro from Kensington may be an ideal gift for the laptop user.
Tackpads are fun and all, but for serious mousing, I need a real mouse. The Pocket
Mouse Pro is a smaller sized USB optical mouse with a retractable USB cable. The key
point here is the retractable cable, which saves on clutter in a laptop case and makes
for quick packing. Plus, the USB cord is adjustable, letting you use only the length
of USB cord needed. Perhaps the ultimate portable solution could be the Pocket Mouse
Pro Wireless, which eliminates the cable all together, but requires a second
component, a USB receiver/transmitter. Personally, I'd opt for the corded version. The
wireless version requires batteries, which could be inconvenient on the road, plus, as
I mentioned, the wireless version has a USB base, which is another thing to pack,
carry and keep track of.

The Pocket Mouse Pro has a suggested retail price of $43.99 and the Pocket Mouse Pro
Wireless retails for $49.99. The mouse is compatible with Mac OS 8.1 and later and Mac
OS X. The retractable cord measures 36-inches.

Throughout the month of December, Insanely Great Mac will post gift ideas for the Mac
head on your Christmas list, or for yourself. We'll pick out hardware and software
items that hopefully will not be too obvious. All gift ideas will be priced below or
around $100. Feel free to comment the items and offer your own suggestions in the
comments section below.
