Interactive releases MP3 player cum Flash drive

The competition is starting to catch on to what makes the iPod so kewl

Interactive Media has announced the release of the KanguruMicro MP3, a palm sized USB
Flash Drive and MP3 player rolled into one. Measuring at just 3 inches length, the
KanguruMicro MP3 comes with its own set of headphones, a rechargeable battery that
lasts up to six hours and the ability to store as much as 256MB worth of data or three
and a half hours worth of music.

"Functioning as both a USB Flash Drive and a mini MP3 player, this product is great
for just about everyone. It is much smaller than portable tape players or CD players
and its storage capacities eliminate the need to worry about carrying tapes or CDs,"
said Nate Cote, vice president of product management. "Just plug the device into your
USB port, download your favorite tunes and listen while out for a jog, relaxing on the
beach or commuting to your next destination."

In addition to storing music, the KanguruMicro MP3 can also be used to store data
files and weighs only 46g, offers true plug and play, requires no external power and
is driverless with most operating systems. Also, as an added feature, the battery is
rechargeable through your USB port and comes with mini-ear buds, a neck strap and a
universal headphone adapter.

The KanguruMicro MP3 Mac and Linux compatible, and prices start at $99.95

Editor's note: This is a really good idea as its very small, very light and makes use
of the same memory used by many if not most digital cameras -- in a word, this is
convergence.

However, at first blush, this device is lacking in a number of areas where the iPod
excels: battery life, capacity and throughput (ie FireWire). What's your take?
