12 Days of X-Mas: Laptop Screen Protectors
By Michael Flaminio, Insanely Great Mac
December 16th 2002
Keep greasy key marks off of that LCD
If you have a laptop you're probably familiar with little marks showing up on your
screen. These little marks are caused by the laptop LCD coming in contact with the
keyboard. Oils from fingers reside on the keys, and then transfer to the screen when
the laptop is closed shut. Rather than constantly cleaning your keyboard and screen, a
laptop screen protector can be the ideal solution.
Other World Computing made up and sells screen protectors for most laptops, with two
specifically designed for the current PowerBook G4 and iBook. The screen protectors
are made of 100% grain leather cowhide. The protector covers the keyboard, or the
entire screen surface area, keeping anything from touching the LCD when closed.
I usually recommend one of these for anyone who buys a new laptop. I know I like mine,
and even though the latest PowerBook revision apparently doesn't have quite the
keyboard/screen issues as previous ones, it's still nice knowing something is keeping
that big LCD protected. The protectors are available from Other World Computing for
$14.95 and $17.95 for the full PowerBook G4 version.
[Throughout the month of December, Insanely Great Mac is posting gift ideas for the
Mac head on your Christmas list, or for yourself. We'll pick out hardware and software
items that hopefully will not be too obvious. All gift ideas will be priced below or
around $100. Feel free to comment on the items and offer your own suggestions in the
comments section below.]
