Apple, Dell Boost ATI Revenue Growth
By Remy Davison, Insanely Great Mac
December 18th 2002

High-end Radeon cards chiefly responsible for turnaround.

ATI have announced a 34% growth in sequential profit growth for their first fiscal
quarter for 2003.

The graphics card maker posted revenues of $322 million for Q1, up from $239.5 million
for Q4 2002. Gross margins were 27.3%, although this represented a decline from 30.1%
in the previous quarter.

Net income for the quarter was $5 million or 2 per share. By comparison, ATI lost
$32.2 million net last quarter and $10.3 million on the year-ago quarter.

ATI cited the shipping of its Radeon 9700 and 9000 as key reasons behind its improved
performance. The company noted Apple, Dell and HP's use of the 9000, while Dell,
eMachines, HP, Gateway, Fujitsu and NEC employed Radeon 9700 graphics cards.

Analysis: As we noted in yesterday's article, it's a fairly good bet that Apple may
intro the 9700 Pro on its Power Macs, given that it's already shipping in high-end
PCs. Equally, a 9700 might give the Power Mac a bit of an edge over the PowerBook G4,
with which it shares the Radeon 9000 currently.
