PowerLogix Releases Dual 1.25GHz G4 Upgrades, Pismo 800 G3, More
By Remy Davison, Insanely Great Mac
January 7th 2003
More poke for Pismos, G4s, Beige and Blue & White G3s.
PowerLogix has announced Dual-processor 1.25GHz CPU upgrades for all AGP through
QuickSilver 2002 Power Macintosh G4s.
The 1.25GHz DP G4s have 2MB L3 cache on both processors, using SDR technology.
PowerLogix claims DDR is "unnecessary" and provides no performance advantages.
PowerLogix also promise to continue to support the G4 Cube with a DP 1GHz G4, with
possible 1.25GHz DP processors to come, along with a revised DC board to accommodate
the dual processors' increased power demands.
Also announced by PowerLogix are the Series 233 G4 upgrades, available with
single-processor 800MHz and 1 or 1.2GHz CPUs. Like the DP upgrades, they are suitable
for all Power Mac G4s with AGP through the QuickSilver, as well as the Cube.
The PowerBook G3 (FireWire 2000) also gets a speed boost with the BlueChip 800MHz G3,
giving the PowerBook iBook 800 speeds. PowerLogix claim this is the first
software-controlled, speed-adjustable CPU which can be altered on-the-fly, without
rebooting. Battery life can be increased by reducing the CPU speed using PowerLogix's
software utility, with users able to choose between 300 and 800MHz speeds. The
BlueChip 800 uses the PPC750fx with 512K of L2 cache running at full processor speed
(800MHz).
G3s aren't left out, with an 800MHz PPC750fx G3 available for all Blue & White, PCI
Power Mac G4s and Beige Power Mac G3s.
PowerLogix says that the 1.2GHz models ship in 1-2 weeks, while the PowerForce G3 800
ZIF, Blue Chip G3 800 Pismo, and PowerForce G3 800 will ship in 2-3 weeks.
Prices are unavailable at time of writing, but will be available on PowerLogix's
website from January 7.
