Brother Intros Rendevous-Compatible Laser Printer

Rendezvous network printers start to roll in.
Brother has announced its HL-5070 Laser Printer with support for Apple's Rendezvous
networking technology. Rendezvous features 'auto-discovery' which lets Macs on a
network seek and connect to compatible devices over any IP network, including Ethernet
and 802.11 (Airport) wireless networks.
The Brother HL-5070 features 10/100bT Ethernet networking with a built-in print
server. It also sports USB 2.0 and parallel interfaces.
"Rendezvous is a perfect example of standards driving innovation," said Ron Okamoto,
Apple's vice-president of Worldwide Developer Relations. "Brother has done an
incredible job in being the first manufacturer to ship a printer that makes setting it
up as easy as hitting the power button."
The 17 page per minute laser printer includes driver support for OS 8.6 through 9.2
and OS X 10.1 through 10.2.x, as well as various versions of Windows. The HL-5070N
also feature PostScript Level 3 emulation and PCL6. The printer delivers resoluitions
of up to 2400x600dpi and comes with 16MB RAM and supports up to a maximum of 144MB.
Manual duplex printing and an optional additional 250 sheet feeder are also supported.
The printer will ship in Febraury for an estimated price of $499.
