Rumor: Quark 6 goes alpha
By ron carlson, Insanely Great Mac
January 17th 2003
The company reportedly began shipping CDs to testers yesterday
Quark, one of the few core platform apps not yet available for X, reportedly has
entered the alpha (ie pre-beta) testing stage as the company has shipped CDs with the
software to testers, according to a report on Macintouch yesterday.
"Quark started shipping out Alpha CDs of Quark 6.0 to testers today," Macintouch
states quoting an unnamed reader. "This is a good sign for those on the sidelines
that there is progress on this greatly-anticipated OS X application."
Apple has partly blamed slow pro desktop sales on the lack of an X-compatible version
of Quark. During his keynote address his Steveness sniped at the software maker did
Phil Schiller during his Power of X presentation.
In related news, our European readers might want to take advantage of the 50-percent
off deal Quark is offering for those that purchase the XPress 5.0 upgrade.
Editor's note: Me thinks that Quark is eager to show movement toward getting an
X-compatible version of XPress out. As reported by The Register, the company's public
display of irritation last Fall with OS X and the Mac platform in general backfired
badly and they've been playing catch up ever since.
