Report: Apple's Q4 shipments up 8.2%
By ron carlson, Insanely Great Mac
January 20th 2003
Yet another market report is out and the numbers are... less than clear
A Bloomberg report, quoting an IDC, states that Apple's unit volume was upped 8.2
percent in Q4 '03 and that the company's market share came in at an even 3.0 percent.
However, the mothership's volume numbers for the last two quarters of the year present
an inconsistent picture -- Q3 shipments were down 5.4 percent, but market share came
in at 3.8 percent.
Moreover, for the year, Apple's market share (worldwide) averaged 3.575 percent, with
a low of 2.9 percent in Q1 and a high of 4.1 percent in Q2.
Given the numbers presented by Apple during their most recent earnings report and
other market figures IGM has reported, the company overall is doing well given current
market conditions.
Editor's note: I suspect Apple's numbers would have been a great deal better if they
were shipping 333MHz FSB PowerMacs. Fred Anderson said as much at his last appearance.
