All iBooks, iMac 17" Now 3-5 Day Wait at AppleStore

Watching the AppleStore Detectives
Inexplicably, the AppleStore all iBook models, and the 17" iMac model, have jumped to
a 3-5 day wait, rather than the usual 1-2 days.
The 17" iMac model is one of Apple's most popular, and stock shortages would not
normally be expected.
Similarly, iBooks are a mainstay in Apple's lineup. Recently Apple CFO Fred Anderson
in his Q1 2003 earnings statement, said that Apple had achieved its 4-4.5 weeks on
inventory targets. Channel inventory is under control, so there doesn't appear any
reason why models should be in short supply.
Yesterday, IGM reported that the 5GB iPod was unavailable at the AppleStore,
suggesting it is EOL and/or due for replacement shortly.
Analysis: Refresh due? Possibly, although Apple wouldn't want to have iBook or iMac
clock speeds running too close to either PowerBooks or Power Macs. With the 12.1"
PowerBook just coming on stream, it would be an odd time to release a new iBook -
unless Apple believes Mini-Me will cannibalize their bread-and-butter iBook sales.
Maybe a ramped-up feature set is in the works. But I wouldn't expect a G4 iBook
anytime soon. After all, there already is one.
