APC offers complete availability solutions for Xserve

Support is to include power management software, racks and UPS'
American Power Conversion (APC) has announced that it has expanded support beyond
Apple's desktop solutions to offer end-to-end availability for the company's
UNIX-based Xserve. These customers can now purchase power protection and accessories
designed to be fully compatible with Xserve, including APC's Smart-UPS line and
NetShelter VX rack systems.
"Apple has attracted a lot of positive attention since the introduction of their
powerful, easy-to-use and affordable UNIX-based Xserve servers," said Rob Johnson,
vice president and general manager, availability enhancements group, APC. "Our line
of high quality power protection and accessories are designed to give Xserve customers
higher availability in case of unforeseen power problems."
"Affordable hardware with powerful standards-based software makes Xserve the world's
easiest-to-manage UNIX-based server solution for Mac, UNIX and Windows environments,"
said Ron Okamoto, vice president, worldwide developer relations, the mothership.
"APC's end-to-end offering with software built on Mac OS X is an ideal choice for
Xserve customers that seek a higher level of availability to address critical power
and environmental concerns."
APC is the first vendor to announce a complete line of comprehensive protection for
Xserve including UPS', power protection software and racks. Supported software
offerings include PowerChute Personal Edition for X and PowerChute Network Shutdown
for X.
Editor's note: From the meanest of the lean times to better and better enterprise
support. OS X and Xserve have gone a long way toward making "the rest of us" a serious
consideration on both sides of the enterprise equation.
I'd really love to see a "Fortune 500" switch story. I bet his Steveness would too...
