Quark posts first Xpress 6.0 screen shot

In addition to a short list of 'new' features, the company posts system requirements

In the first salvo in what is likely to be a long run up to the final release of
Xpress 6.0, Quark has posted a single screen shot, a handful of the app's "new"
features and a sparse system requirements listing.

"This is the first in a series of introductory glimpses into the superior
functionality of QuarkXPress 6 software, the upcoming release of the world's most
popular design and layout software," promises Quark. "Don't miss future sneak peeks at
QuarkXPress 6 features ? coming soon to the Quark Web site."

The company states that the long-awaited update to their benchmark layout application
will run only on OS X and Windoze XP. Neither of the system requirement lists for
either OS provides guidance on minimum CPU and states that 128MB is the minimum amount
of memory.

New features are said to include multiple undo and redo for more actions, as well as
full-screen previewing.

IGM previously reported that Xpress 6.0 is anticipated in the "June-July" timeframe.
Though the increased marketing of late could indicate an earlier release is planned.

Editor's note: 128MB is about enough to boot X and browse the web. It's fairly
difficult to image creating even a basic B5-size layout with that much memory. Ya,
possible but not particularly realistic.

Also, the screen they provide is muddy and doesn't really show anything other than
that a version of Xpress runs under X.

Further, the TCP/IP requirement would seem to hint that the company has or will
include some type of network-based (think M$) license checking. Gads...
