A fix for your disgruntled PowerBook/XServe Combo drive.
"Apple has released new firmware for its slot-loading Combo (DVD/CDRW) drives in its
PowerBook G4s and XServes. Please note that this update is not for SuperDrive-equipped
PowerBook G4s.
Kbase document says that the firmware update will resolve a problem..."
