Another Panther security update

Do these patches actually fix real problems or are they simply produced to assuage
security analysts?
"Apple, the mother-of-all motherships, has release a second security update
(2003-11-04) for X.2 or, as some prefer, dat black cat. Apparently, this fix patches a
hole in the Terminal (O'Reilly tutorial) application.
