This is a small home network with only Macs and no VirtualPC or Parallel
running. Other devices on the network are a printer (wireless), 2 Airport
Extremes, an Airport Express, a DirecTV HD receiver, and an HDTV.

The ARP tables and NAT tables show nothing unexpected. Because the 3 computers
have both wired and wireless access, a given computer shows twice once for the
hard wired domain (rlpcon.loc) and once for the DHCP domain (westfall.com).
(rlpcon.loc is a dummy domain; it was once used when I was running a local
DNS.) Here is an arp table:
------
[harvey:~] rpeskin% arp -a
dslrouter.westell.com (192.168.1.1) at 0:23:97:1e:cd:95 on en0 ifscope

112 device is an Airport Extreme. Other devices were off.

I'm not sure what nmap is. Here is a view of what I see in the Finder:

The Shared device "fire" is the unknown. It is viewed by the Share as a PC but
I know of no way to access its IP address. A better understanding of how the
Finder gets its Shared list might help. The APEX Base Station is a disk
attached to the Airport Extreme. "Path Finder" browser shows a similar PC share
which is a duplicate of that APEX Base Station. The only other thing I can
report is that the "fire" share icon disappears when the computer
"fire.rlpcon.com" is off line.
