Hi,

I am considering adding a rack mount APC Smart-UPS to add to my wiring
closet.

APC says that PowerChute Personal Edition should be used with
MacOS X Server up to v10.4.8. Any OS above that version
should use the native Macintosh shutdown as set in ³System Preferences |
Energy Saver ³.

But, while the ³Energy Saver² panel allows for scheduled shutdown and wakeup
it doesn¹t seem to address the situation where a signal over the network
from the UPS that is supplying power would cause the server to shut down
ASAP.
(Including over-riding any logged in users).
When the power returns, the default Mac ³Energy Saver² preference of stating
when power is again available would work fine for me.

Do any of you have a way of addressing this problem that is:
Shut the server down when UPS Power device signals via a Network Management
Card
Start Up when power is again available.

PS: Even better when the signal arrives the Server sends a message to all
logged in
Users asking them to logout ASAP and giving them, say 2 minutes. Then it
shuts the system down regardless.

Thanks

Jay
