Hi,

I have a always on ( except when I go to bed ) mac mini that serves as my
home server (dns, svn, moin wiki, PostgresqlDB, iPhoto backup...).

I am thinking of adding a VPN so I can access stuff whilst on 3G/Wifi while
away from home ( mainly my iPad/iPhone ). I am also thinking of getting one
of the new Mac Air Books.

I am running the latest Snow Leopard (not server ) on the mini.

It is my understanding that all of the software for cranking up a
VPN server comes with Snow Leopard.

There is some software, iVPN, that is supposed to provide a simple
GUI to do the configuration and it also supplies a LaunchAgent/Daemon file
to control startup.

Has anyone here used this software? ( I think is costs about $28.00 )

I have read that it is possible to do the setup via command line but do
not have a clue of where to start.

I have also read that the Airport Extreme Base Stations have bugs that prevent
the use of use the PPTP protocol and that the L2TP protocol is the one to use.
( I use the dual band AEBS ).

I must confess that punching a hole in the fire wall for a live connection
a bit on the chilling side...

The first router that I had was a (non-wifi) Linksys that had the very nice
feature of broadcasting the ip address of *all* incoming connections. I wrote
a daemon that logged all of the data and it was amazing how many people were
knocking at my door...

Any way, any hints or caveats about setting up a vpn will be appreciated.

Jerry
