I eventually realized that postfix was probably still using my old main.cf. Looking at the other main.* files I noticed that there was a use_sacl_cache = yes line. I tacked on the line: use_sacl_cache = no into my old main.cf and reloaded postfix. This 'fixed' the problem and I can now send mail to this machine from other machines on my lan.
