Hi, I am using a WD Live NAS for Time Machine backups of several Macs.
The backup of my main working machine became corrupted and when I deleted the sparse disk corresponding to the corrupted backup and restarted the Time Machine Backup it reported that it would take about two weeks to backup about 134GB! I seem to recall that one could directly attach the NAS to the Mac and things might go faster. I unplugged the NAS from the router and plugged the enet cable directly into my mac. I could 'talk' to the user interface on the NAS via Safari and Bonjour. The time machine software ( in retrospect ) could not see the NAS disk. So I reattached the NAS to the router and started the Time Machine backup again. This time, Time Machine says only about eight hours…so ok… Now, when I had the NAS directly attached to the mac could I have simply added a route to the NAS via the hardwired interface ( I normally use wifi )? Something like "route add en0 192.168.1.99" where the 192.168.1.99 is the address of the NAS box. Would I also have to add a route from the NAS back to the Mac? Just trying' to figure out a way to perhaps speed things up in the future :) Jerry _______________________________________________ MacOSX-admin mailing list [email protected] http://www.omnigroup.com/mailman/listinfo/macosx-admin
