Howdy All,

I have a strange problem with my laptop. When on the Ethernet network at work
netbiosd seems to continually download data at around 5+MB/s. I traced this by
closing all apps and using nettop. I can't understand what this could be.

I did click on the notification to update to Mavericks (and I had automatic
download of software updates turned on) but I didn't actually proceed with the
update through the App Store. It doesn't look like it is downloading Mavericks
either.

It stops when I go on to the WiFi only at work (which hints to me that it may
be an auto-download that is checking the network type) or even at home
(although I may not have noticed it, perhaps but unlikely).

My hard disk does seem to be losing space but not as fast as I would expect and
I am not sure which file (guess I could use lsof). It was continuing for over
an hour, so I thought I would have seen a huge drop in free space.

I know netbiosd is Windows-related and Windows is the main OS at work and we
have Windows shares and the like but I am not familiar with those or use them
very much. It's also downloading not uploading data. I tried google but
couldn't find anything similar.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what this may be? Know where to look
for software update download files? Suggest how to stop this? I've tried
killing netbiosd (just respawns), even rebooting machine (it starts again).

Thanks,
Ashley.
