There are free apps that will do it. Not sure if Handbrake is one of them. My favorite was VisualHub, which to my great sadness the developer stopped working on years ago. It worked flawlessly, as did its free sibling iSquint. The developer opened up the source to VisualHub but I have yet to see a good update to it. I still use it from time to time.
I just put VisualHub in my public folder along with my registration info. My MobileMe id is aglee.
