Interesting. I use column view quite a lot (list view more), but I have never 
tried dragging a preview image to move or copy a file. I used to have previews 
turned off, but I left them on in 10.6 to no ill effects. (They used to really 
drag the system down, especially on video files).

Generally I have list views sorted by date modified or size, so column view is 
not as useful to me as it once was (I used to use a lot more levels of folders. 
~/Documents/Work/2009/April/<filename> but I don't do that anymore. I will 
either sort by date created or date modified or embed the dates into the 
filenames.
