Neither. The way it worked before was the symlink was just handled on the OS X 
side and the windows machine just saw a normal folder. The PC had no idea the 
folder was a symlink or that the files in that folder where on another drive.

Hmm. I have the opposite problem. Works fine on the Mac, not so well on the PC.

I seem to recall having this issue once before, but I can't remember how I 
resolved it.
