Ok, I stand corrected - it won't let you copy apps off the Touch; it lets you copy data in *some* apps, like Air Sharing, etc [apps that would let you drag/drop files when syncing in iTunes]. I am doing an experiment right now for you - an old 1st gen Touch that was synced to a different computer; I used it for dev work, but it doesn't get much use any more [it runs iOS 3.something]. I'm going to sync it with my iMac and see if I can restore the apps/music/etc on there. The main problem with apps in iOS is that when you wipe one, or restore one by reinstalling it, all the app's data is gone unless it stores the data in the cloud [eg: EverNote, some games, etc]. But even then, your login info would need to be rentered, etc. So, if he used an app that contained any data or prefs, those would all reset if he were to grab them again [for free] from the AppStore. Anyway, I'm using iTunes, canceled the sync with the Touch, and right clicked it in the Source column and picked, Backup. I have several data-driven apps on the Touch, and even ones like NPR/AP, etc which store your news prefs in the app. So when I do a restore I'll be able to tell if the restore, a) restores the apps and b) restores the data in the apps. This may take a bit, and I'll e.mail you off list if it isn't solved and send the list an exec summary of how it went. I have to do something similar with my iPad as I bought it while on the road and had it synced with my laptop. But I try and keep all my iDevices synced with one computer, my iMac. I've only recently started researching iPad development, so very soon I need to start syncing it with my iMac but I don't want to lose data that's been synced with my MBP and resides on my iPad [music/movies are easy to transfer; it's the apps and the apps' data that worry me]. /vjl/ _______________________________________________ MacOSX-talk mailing list [email protected] http://www.omnigroup.com/mailman/listinfo/macosx-talk
