Restricting the search to "preference folder" (this is the open
one) I get the original file.
Spotlight leaves out certain system folders when searching globally.
That said, searching a specific directory from within finder always
will search that directory. I presume the assumption is that most
users don't wish to know / understand what's in System, or Library,
for example.
The files I'm looking for are not in /System nor in /Library, but are
pref files from ~library/preferences I had saved on another, non
bootable but indexed partition. The strange thing is, that when I
restrict the search to the ~library/preference folder, the file there
will be shown, but not the backups on the partition, and when I then
change the search to "This computer", the one in ~library/preferences,
who was showing up before now disappears and nothing shows up.
