Buying any warranty generally limits who you can go to for service.  All
depends on your local Apple dealer.  If you trust them to do repairs properly
(e.g., you would gladly pay them to do repairs if you didn't have AppleCare)
then AppleCare is generally a good idea.   Others have recommended
AppleCare for laptops.  One issue you should consider is that laptops are
stuffed with 1-off proprietary bits.  Often a particular part proves
to be failure prone.
AppleCare may provide parts that would otherwise be in short supply.   OTOH,
a Mac Pro at work had a disk fail.  AppleCare replaced with a disk that died
almost immediately, then took 6 weeks to deliver the replacement for the
replacement, so I ended up buying a retail disk to get the system back in
service.
