I'll second the iStumber recommendation.
Also, some people recommended I use DD-WRT on the netgear, but I'm not sure why I would need to do this as the 834b has a "Wireless Repeating Function" built-in.
I have DD-WRT on a Linksys WRT54G/GL/GS as the router for my home network and I love it. But if the native firmware on your Netgear device already does what you need then why go to the bother of flashing it with DD-WRT? It's a great exercise if you want to take your inner geek out for a spin, but it's overkill just to turn a serviceable wireless repeater into a wireless repeater with tons of functionality that you probably don't need. Not to mention that, on the off chance something goes wrong, there's a non-zero probability of ending up with a brick. If you need or want DD-WRT features that the Netgear's current firmware doesn't have and you feel up to the flashing procedure, then go for it. Otherwise it's probably not worth the effort in this case.
