Hi, I need to “flash” my Pioneer BDR-203 (bluray recordable) drive, in an OWC FW800/USB2 kit, with Pioneer’s latest official firmware. (Readme for the changes is at: <http://pioneer.jp/device_e/product-e/ibs/device_e/dev00002r_e.html#bdr_s03> )
Our drive is at v1.10 as provided by OWC, who does not have a Mac–ready updater (I’ve already asked their tech staff). [Shame on vendors who sell us Mac–Heads these things without any way at all to keep them up-to-date. ;) ] When we buy the blanks, we are being given the newer versions of the discs, and need to take advantage of these updates. ;) Because of the limitations of Pioneer’s own tools for this, an external drive is normally not supported I think, and besides one needs a win32 system. (Wine may work with an internal drive, which is moot in my situation.) See, I have only an iMac6,1 model (2006 I believe, 24–inch “matte” LCD, C2D 2.16-GHz), and no way to get/install any m$ junk on it (i.e. Bootcamp is right–out). So instead we usually use the DVRFlash “hacker’s tool” at <http://dvrflash.rpc1.org/>. The latest two updates _will_ support my drive, and it is known to work with FW/USB connections as well. While DVRFlash is normally ported to OSX, the latest two updates are Win32 *only*, and do not fully work with a wine–based environment (I’ve tried WineBottler, CrossOver, and CrossOver-Games) — it does not “detect” any external Pioneer drives that way. [I’ve volunteered to be a porter of the latest versions of DVRFlash, but I am not part of their “clique” as it seems.] To get a temporary win32 system here, I have tried “Hiren’s Boot CD” and one made by “Bart’s PE”. They both will boot, but both will lock-up when any kind of keyboard or mouse input is needed. So I figure we need to put the Apple–supplied drivers into those Boot–CDs somehow’r’nuther. I do have the rEFIt pkg installed here, too, to aid in anything needed for the boot-time stuff. Before I tackle this project (e.g. making Hiren fully working on Intel Macs): Does anyone have a _working_ Boot–CD with the needed Apple drivers etc already “slip–streamed” into the CD? Please note I need to do this only for the DVRFlash’ing; I will delete / remove it afterwards. Thank you for any help whatsoever. _______________________________________________ MacOSX-talk mailing list [email protected] http://www.omnigroup.com/mailman/listinfo/macosx-talk
