Doesn't work for me:

# pwd
/opt/local/lib/codecs

# ls -al wmsdmod.dll
-rw-rw-r--  1 1012  1004  773368 Aug 11  2004 wmsdmod.dll

Still audio-only in mplayer (built with MacPorts). I guess I need a M$
based OS to convert the vids.
