Launchctl? > If your only requirement is to end up with recorded sequenses of specific start and end point you could edit files that are to long as long as the target data is covered by the recording. Basically you could record 24/7 and later pull the segments you want by editing the original file. It all depends on if your stuff is recived on one or few enough channels and your file format produce small enough files to fit within your particular disk's (size)? You are going to throw away parts of it but it must fit the unedited files initially.
