Hello,

I'm working on a project here that requires me to create some sort of process
that gets data files from one directory, runs them through a processing
program, saves the generated output and moves the original file and the output
to a second directory. The idea is that both directories could be network
shares and people could upload the files to the first directory and get them
later in the second after they've been processed...

The processing program works only on a mac, and we have no source code. What's
more, the person who wrote it didn't allow for any sort of automation at all
(no ability to specify source or output file when you run the program. You
have to actually click File -> Open to open the file, click Process to process
it, then File -> Save to save the output file).

We have. for the most part, figured out how to automate executing the program
and saving the data with a few small quirks. One of them is how to get a file
name from the source folder. Is there a way to do this? If need be, we can
right a program that does some of the heavy lifting, but I figured there's
probably some sort of way to do this with automator or some similar tool.

Anybody else have any experience with this? I can't seem to figure out an easy
way to do this with Automator (maybe I'm using wrong tool?)

Thanks for any pointers.
