Hi LuKreme, Yes, you are right. To answer my original question, I should have logged in from an admin account. I didn't even think of that, probably because I never had to do that pre-Lion. Before installing Lion, I could see the "backupd" logs (and probably all logs) from a non-admin account. Was this an intentional (perhaps security related) change in Lion? By the way, in case anyone is curious, I logged into an admin account and (obviously) the "backupd" entries were now visible. The good news is that my Time Machine backups are currently only taking 32 seconds!
