iTunes 11 was released about an hour ago and I noticed one thing immediately:
There's color in the interface again.
I would love to get some empirical usability data on this point, but I have
found the endless line of gray icons in the sidebars of most recently released
Mac programs to be very difficult to use, especially in the Finder sidebar.
(iPhoto is high on my "yuck" list for this reason, also, but there are other
reasons playing into that assessment...) Color is a very helpful differentiator
of function and helps me find what I need more quickly. This may not be true
for others, but my vision isn't the greatest.
I didn't have access to the early betas, but this might be Jonathan Ive's newly
granted influence over software design at work. Perhaps there is some hope!
