Correction: I *did* get a warning that the photos would be deleted, but then I also got an alert when iPhoto discovered it no longer had permission to do the deletion.
Also, I see that the "Delete" privilege on Flickr is defined as Read+Write+Delete. I don't plan to re-enable Flickr integration in iPhoto.
