I saw you mention your cable company offering a free cable box but you seeing that as pointless due to the lack of a tv. Well hold on there. If you take them up on that offer and combine it with a Slingbox then you can indeed watch tv on your computer. Granted it's watched through a browser but better then nothing right? More mobile that way anyways, can watch anywhere in your house on a laptop (or even elsewhere over the internet) with the slingbox.
