Great link! But I kept it from the (engineering) student, who did come up with 
a very simple solution. The enabling element is in placing the iMac on its side 
with the slot facing down. Then you don’t need to resort to paper clips, sticky 
tape, or butter knives. Merely an “L”-shaped piece of thin cardboard or 
plastic, with the help of gravity, will fish out a trapped SD card in just 
seconds. 

Nevertheless, the DVD slot has been covered up with a strip of electrical tape!
