I’d like to start using the new Photos app. My situation is not unlike others,
I imagine.

I have two main machines I work with. Unfortunately, over the years, the
photos got slightly out of sync. Of the 55,000+ photos (which include movies),
probably 45,000 are duplicates.

My wife has her own iPhoto library and her own AppleID. We are not using
family sharing (yet). But her library also has copies of albums from the
libraries on my two machines plus her own photos taken with her iPhone that
have been stored via PhotoStream and automatic import.

Our goal is to somehow painlessly merge and trim all three iPhoto Libraries,
set up family sharing and use the new Photos app.

I don’t know that the new Photos app allows for family sharing. Anybody have it
set up that way?

Also, everyone points to iPhoto Library Manager
(http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ <http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/>) as
the best tool to use to merge libraries. It looks like you have to compare
each duplicate, decide on which to keep etc, while doing the merge. I figure
with 45,000 duplicates between my two libraries, and at 5-10 seconds per
analysis, I’m looking at over 50-100 hours+. Will then have to do the same
with my wife’s library.

This doesn’t sound painless. Is there no shorter cut to take?
