Thanks for the hint! I used SuperDuper overnight (took 6 hours @ 9MB/sec), and 
it worked perfectly with the exception that the new drive wasn't encrypted by 
default. 

Disk Utility used to be my go-to app, but it fails for so many things anymore, 
it's not worth wasting time with.
