All: Thank you for your help with the below issue. It turns out it may not be the switch after all. I ordered a new switch so that will be resolved soon anyway. But in the interim, I moved so I had the chance to reconfigure the network. Here's what I found:
I have (right now) 8 devices connected to the network, 7 wireless and the iMac in question wired to the switch. All the wireless devices get good speed, what I'd expect given my ISP's promised service (500Mpbs+). The iMac gets 1-2Mbps (yes, you read that right, not 10, only 1) up and 1-2Mbps down. When connected directly to the router the iMac gets 20-30 Mbps up and down, still much slower than ISP specs and other devices. So I switched the iMac to wireless. It gets 2-3Mbps up and down, only slightly better, but clearly MUCH slower than the other devices. I am now certain that regardless of issues with the switch there are issues with the iMac's networking. So now I'm going to work on that issue....and suggestions are still very much appreciated!
