Thank you Carl, I haven't looked into it but I have Acorn and discovered that it can only save layers as separate files and not as a "group" in one PSD file, which Pixelmator does.
Also, my order of priority is 1) free software (native) → none in this category 2) free software (multiplatform) → Gimp 3) proprietary software (native) → Acorn / Pixelmator 4) proprietary software (multiplatform) → Affinity / Photoshop Maybe I can try Gimp again, but I was not impressed by its "ease of use".
