Nope - it works out of the box. If you ignore the thread-unsafe libc Apple lets us cope with, and the buggy Berkeley DB. The last time I tried to compile 5.6.1 (for perl debugging purposes) I ran into many troubles. AFAIK the perl5.6.0 on Mac OS X is heavily modified version made by Apple. I don't think they will go through all that trouble again - since the perl on the WWDC Builds is still 5.6.0 I think they're waiting for 5.8 or 5.8.1 or 5.6.2 or so.
