I save it as ~/bin/select, and now I can just do 'select Perl.tar' and I see the icon in the Finder. =)
I saved it as /usr/bin/select, chmod'ed to 0755, and said goodbye to OS X Finder file-opening obtuseness (like not showing . and / files)!
