Thank you all for your help.
I have now looked at numerous solutions and help-pages which are supposed to sort out sendmail on Jaguar, but they were all so complex, and/or warned that any previous tinkering was probably going to invalidate them, that I decided in the end to go with Mail::Sendmail which is working just fine.
