I was there, I remember, and I guess now I need to come up with a new name
for the open-source Mac archiver I've been planning to write. :-)  (Format
will be a gzipped tarball of Mac files encoded either with MacBinary or
AppleDouble.)

I believe adding an FREF for type 'fold' to the BNDL will do what you want.
You'll probably have to rebuild the desktop afterward.
