For general programming I would use the port of GNU emacs, with the warning
the it does not run in an address space of more than 256 MB. I have 320 MB
of RAM on my lime iMac and I use 100 MB as RAM disk to get under the limit
(with no VM).

1. VivaPress (to replace QuarkXPress)
2. Tex-Edit
and sometimes
3. BBEdit (for some valuable functions)
and seldom
4. Claris Works / Apple Works (for some filters)
