[MacPerl] DBI

[Yosemite]

i am trying to install the DBI module using installme.plx. it appears to
install correctly but not even the following script will compile

use DBI;

the error is:

Can't find loadable object for module DBI in @INC ...

trying to compile DBI.pm errors near the comment to read the readme and
re-install, i have done that but still have no idea what i am doing wrong.
