I always open and edit my scripts in BBEdit, which has no problems 
with scripts larger than several megabytes. You can also run them 
from BBEdit.

There are other share/freeware editors out there, but BBEdit happens 
to be my (and many other people's) favourite.

Be sure to increase the memory size of MacPerl if you allocate large 
datastructures!
