Did you know Mac OS 9.1 is out?  It is IMO better than Mac OS 9.0.4.  More
stable, more complete.

Yes, it is.  MacPerl 5.6.1 is in alpha, and compiles using the exact same
source as distributed with the Unix version of perl 5.6.1.  There are some
additional patches (which are being fed into the main source, for inclusion
in 5.6.2 and 5.8.0), and there is a separate macos/ subdirectory with
additional files that is not included in the main distribution.
