Hello, I thought there would be an easy solution to build a little script for finding files within a specified list of volumes (local or network).
Perhaps somebody on the list found a solution and can check my ideas or even provide some help. My first try was to use "File::Find". This is much too slow on my large network volumes (100 GB). Sherlock in contrast is very fast using the same search criterias. My conclusion was to script Sherlock. But again - trouble. The "search" command always searches by content. There is no way you can tell Sherlock to find by file name. You can only trigger search with a predefined search which is of very limited value. I have variable file names to look up. Next round - couldn't I patch the file storing the predefined search criteria, with MacPerl of course. It should be possible but a naive string replacement in this Sherlock search file didn't help. It's a binary file with an unknown format. Before spending hours trying the guess this format I decided to ask here. What do you think would be the best solution? Another idea I'd like is to have a Mac::Find module which uses the same speedup mechanisms Sherlock can use for a volume search.
