Indeed there is. What with the DBI bundled recently ported, and CPAN
working, I've been a thoroughly happy camper lately. I'm in the middle
of huge database cleanup prior to a site makeover, and I cannot tell you
how smooth the transition to 5.6.1b1 was.

I installed elsewhere (via the full installer) as I noted that it was
going to write to MacPerl ?, and I wanted to keep the original --
perhaps the beta's should be named MacPerl 5.6.1b* ? (and even the final
ver named with 5.6.1 in the folder name).

I re-created a CPAN-shell droplet, as I could see the need for one in my
instance. On-the-fly configuration of the CPAN-shell went without a
hitch -- congratulations!

Using CPAN to download modules (CGI update, Quantum::Superpositions,
DBD::AnyData, etc.) to site_perl also worked terrifically, although I
had to redirect to the right site_perl folder during config (it wanted
to use the one from 5.6.1a4)

I'll let you know if I come across anything strange, but so far, it's
been bliss.

:-)
