Ya know, I've used this pup for ages and never once gave it any thought to how useful the rest of you might find it, and it suddenly hits me that Hey! this would be a neat thing to bundle with MacPerl.
I checked the licensing setup and the stand-alone AutoTyper is free to bundle with a project like MacPerl. so.. I'd like to send it (the small singleton autotyper, not the full FileTyper package) to the list, ...and was about to attach it to this, but then it occurred to me that some of you might not be interested in it and would be resentful of the attachment to the e-mail. (I read these via MT-NewsWatcher now, and keep forgetting it's still a mailing list to some :l ) hmmm what to do, what to do.. ok, I've made it a BinHex file and posted it to my user-space on one of my shell accounts. <http://sgodin.users.magpage.com/misc/MacPerl_AutoTyper.sit.hqx> FileSize is ~25K basically it works like this: drag any file whose Type is TEXT and whose creator is not BBEdit, Shuck, or MacPerl and drop it on the AutoTyper, and it sets the creator to BBEdit. If the Creator is one of (BBEdit, Shuck, MacPerl) it cycles between them each time you drop the file. it will also recursively scan a folder and its subfolders so you can mass-convert files in the background. *CAUTION* when dropping folders, you can also inadvertently change the type and creator to something you don't want for a particular text file. i.e. codewarrior stuff, etc. If you want, I can narrow down the permissiveness of what it DOES convert from standard plaintext TEXT files, to only certain creators, if you can supply me with the appropriate ones. (like SimpleText [ttxt] and MPW [?] only for example) I think it would be a great thing to bundle with MacPerl, particularly since I use it practically all the time, myself. Chris? The Full FileTyper package is downloadable from <http://www.ugcs.caltech.edu/~dazuma/filetyper/> and is $10 shareware if any of you are interested in it. (like if you use Alpha instead of BBEdit and wish to change the AutoTyper to something that you yourself use, instead. :) print pack "H*", "4a75737420416e6f74686572204d61635065726c204861636b65722c0d"; -- Scott R.
